Library news

The Panther Valley Public Library presents “A Universe of Stories” during its summer library program, which begins June 25.

Readers will explore space and our universe. Activities may include group games, art projects, science experiments and more.

The Summer Reading Program is open to children ages 3 to 8 and will be held from 10-11 a.m. Tuesdays for 3- to 5-year-olds and 10-11 a.m. Wednesdays for 6- to 8-year-olds.

Registration for “A Universe of Stories” is required.

All programs are free of charge.

Senior center

The menu at the Panther Valley Senior Center for the week of June 24-28 is:

Monday: Chicken scampi, spaghetti, spinach, sorbet or beef Thai salad

Tuesday: Mushroom soup, cheeseburger, potato salad, mixed berries

Wednesday: Chicken and sausage bake, cheesy potatoes, cornbread, fruit salad or chicken ranch salad

Thursday: Roast chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, biscuit, berry crisp or turkey hoagie

Friday: Barbecue pork chop, sweet potatoes, broccoli, pineapple chunks or tuna wrap

The Panther Valley Senior Center has announced upcoming events for June 24-28.

Penny Game on June 24 at 11 a.m.; Poker-Keeno on June 25 at 11 a.m.; Guess Who on June 26 at 11 a.m.; Cornhole on June 27 at 11 a.m.; Bingo on June 28 at 11 a.m.

Golden Agers

The Panther Valley Golden Agers meeting is scheduled for Monday at St. John’s Slovak Lutheran Church Social Hall beginning at 1 p.m.

A memorial service is planned for deceased members from 2018 to the present day. All names will be announced at the service.

Bus trip

Friends of Lansford Recreation is hosting a bus trip to New York City for a day on your own on July 13.

The bus will depart from the Lansford Pool parking lot at 7 a.m. and from New York City at 7 p.m.

Cost per person is $35 and includes drinks and breakfast snacks.

Coaldale

Crime watch

The Coaldale Community Crime Watchers will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. on June 26 in the VFW.

Guest speaker is Kelly Kindt. The topic will be the life of a 911 dispatcher.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

Summit Hill

Free concert

The Cressona Community Band will be performing a free concert in Summit Hill’s Ludlow Park at 7 p.m. on June 26.

The show will include a variety of patriotic songs, songs of yesteryear and others.

The public is welcome to attend and bring lawn chairs.

The Cressona Band is a nonprofit organization consisting of musicians of all ages from Carbon, Schuylkill and surrounding counties. The band rehearses and performs from April until September.

In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be held at the Hilltop Community Center at the same time and date.

Lansford

Lansford Alive offers thanks

Lansford Alive Events Committee would like to recognize and thank the people responsible for the removal of all the dead and decaying trees and stumps at Kennedy Park.

Local tree surgeon expert Matt Dunn, of Lansford, was the driving force behind the project, with some assistance from the Lansford Borough employees.

Special thanks to the borough employees for their ongoing summer lawn care and park maintenance, keeping the venue beautiful for “Music in the Park.”
