Pleasant Valley superintendent Lee Lesisko announced this afternoon that a child in the elementary school has tested positive for COVID-19. The child is asymptomatic.
Due to the diagnosis, the school district has closed the elementary school through Oct. 7. Classes will be held online only.
Students were dismissed at the regular time today, but parents were given the option to pick up their children from school early.
Bricks and mortar classes will resume on Oct. 8.
The intermediate and middle school will continue with their normal hybrid schedule.
“Our goal is to provide transparent communication when there is a confirmed positive case of COVID-19,” Lesisko said.
The school district contacted the state Department of Health after they were notified of the positive test result.
“Please know that we are following our school district Health and Safety Plan and taking all the necessary safety precautions,” he said in a statement.
On Wednesday the district announced that the high school will be closed through Oct. 12, because two teachers have tested positive for the virus. All high school sports are canceled. Two teachers have also tested positive at the Monroe Career and Technical Institute.
During this remote learning instruction period, meals are available for students at the high school between 10 a.m. and noon during school days.
