Several candidates have emerged to fill a vacancy on the Northern Lehigh Board of School Directors.
Three people applied for the seat as of Monday afternoon's deadline, according to Sharon Sherman, confidential secretary to the superintendent.However, Sherman said the district did not wish to disclose the identities of the candidates at this time.Sherman said one applicant resides in Slatington, another is from Walnutport, and the other lives in Washington Township.The seat became open after the board on Feb. 8 accepted the resignation of former Director Natalie Green, who wrote that she was leaving due to personal reasons.From that point, the board had 30 days to fill the vacant seat.As a result, the regular board meeting scheduled for 7:30 p.m. March 14 has been canceled.Due to the need to fill the vacant seat, the board has rescheduled the meeting for 6 p.m. March 7.Whoever is chosen to fill the vacancy will serve until December 2017.To serve beyond that point, it will be necessary to run in the municipal election.Green was originally appointed to the board in June 2010.
