Mahoning Valley Fire Company's new 2013 KME pumper will be dedicated on Sept. 15.
Fire company officials said the festivities will begin at 2 p.m. "with an old fashion carnival atmosphere." The official dedication be occur at about 5 p.m.Jay Maholick, fire company spokesman, said, "Our hope would be that you would bring the family, friends, and kids to see all that is wonderful about living in this area as well as those volunteers who protect it. Carnival games, a bounce house, fire related displays including fire prevention information, as well as plenty of local neighboring fire vehicles will be on location for all to see."The main part of the program will consist of the dedication and housing ceremony for the new pumper.At about 7 p.m., there will be music from the band "The Brand."During the afternoon, deejay Layne "The Doctor" Roberts of Penn's Peak Radio will be on hand.The new lime yellow pumper with blue stripes is replacing a 1980 Pierce pumper.It is the first new piece of apparatus the fire company purchased since it bought a new brush truck - a Ford - in 2004.The new pumper has a base price of $467,217.Fire Chief Mark Ebbert said the fire company made the decision to buy the truck from KME in Nesquehoning because many township residents are employed there.The new truck has a 1,500 gallons-per-minute pump, a 1,000 gallon water tank, and 25 gallons of foam.Ebbert said during the day of the dedication, there will be country chicken and pork barbecue available for purchase, as well as commemorative mugs, glasses, and tee shirts.Maholick said regarding the dedication, "We are proud to show off where we have been, where we stand currently, and where we are headed in the future."
