Snow Wednesday could affect evening commute

Forecasters are calling for snow tomorrow afternoon and evening.

It won't be anything crippling, but it could make for a white-knuckle drive home for some commuters.Accuweather based out of State College predicts 1-3 inches of snow beginning tomorrow in the late afternoon and ending later tomorrow night.The National Weather Service based in Mount Holly, New Jersey, is calling for up to 2 inches, but says the amount could change depending on the track and the speed of the clipper system that's bringing the storm from the Midwest.The State College office of the National Weather Service, which predicts the weather for Schuylkill County, tentatively expects 2-4 inches of snow.All forecasters says once this system passes, no additional snow is in the forecast until Monday when snow showers might occur.Hydrologists says we could use the precipitation. Since Dec. 1, a total of 2.2 inches of snow fell in Allentown, which is lower than the normal 11.1 inches.Among the worst storms to happen on this date ocurred back in 1961. The Kennedy Inaugural Storm on Jan. 19 and 20 dumped 10 to 15 inches of snow on most of the region.In 1973, a 10-inch snowfall was reported.Wednesday's high temperature is expected to be about 29 while the overnight low tomorrow night is forecast to be about 20.The record high in Allentown for today is 56 in 1951 while the record low is minus 6 in 1994.Mount Pocono reported a record low for this date of minus 22 in 1917.By the way, a check with grocery stores in the area say they have an ample supply of bread and toilet paper.
