A public hearing conducted by the House Majority Policy Committee that had been scheduled to take place on Wednesday, in Carbon County has been postponed, Rep. Doyle Heffley, R-Carbon, announced today. The hearing was to focus on issues related to the ongoing reevaluation study of the Francis E. Walter Dam and Reservoir by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The cancellation was necessary because the House of Representatives has been called into session on Wednesday to vote on a possible override of Gov. Tom Wolf’s veto of House Bill 2787, legislation that would ensure decisions about school sports and activities, including policies regarding spectators, are made at the local level.

“This is the second time the hearing has been postponed due to the House being called into session, which always takes precedence,” said Heffley. “Although frustrating, it is understandable because of the important nature of the override vote as we continue our work to enact policy in response to the restrictive, unilateral decisions made by the governor.”

Heffley said the hearing will be rescheduled.

The committee is chaired by Rep. Martin Causer (R-Cameron/McKean/Potter).
