Northern Lehigh plans Month of Caring fundraiser

As of next month, members of the Northern Lehigh community can do their part to help raise funds for cancer.

Director Natalie Green announced at Monday's school board meeting that the district will hold its Month of Caring fundraiser in October.As part of the fundraiser, Green said the district will sell T-shirts for $18, wristbands for $2, and cancer pins, which will be via donations.The items will be available at all home sporting events in the district, such as football, soccer and field hockey contests, Green said.Proceeds raised will go toward the American Cancer Society, she said.More information will be available on the district's website,

www.nlsd.org.In other business, the board:• Accepted the resignation of Angela Shoemaker from her position as instructional aide at the senior high school, effective Aug. 18.• Appointed Lisa Fisher as emotional support special education aide at the high school at a salary of $11.40 an hour, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, for up to 180 student days a school year, plus additional 20 hours for staff development, according to language in the memorandum of understanding, effective Sept. 16, pending verification of missing file items, as well as a 60-day probationary period ending Dec. 15.• Approved an employee request to take a 12-week family medical leave beginning on Aug. 18. The employee plans to return to her current position upon release from her physician.• Approved an employee's unpaid leave of absence, effective Aug. 25. She plans to return to her current position upon medical release from her physician.• Acknowledged that teacher Everly Kesack has completed the requirements per the Collective Bargaining Agreement, from Step 6B + 24, to Step 6M, that would entitle them to a salary increase for the 2014-15 school year.• Approved Stephen Shuey as artistic director for the fall play and spring musical for the Northern Lehigh High School Student Theater Group. The stipend will be $2,000, to be paid out of the high school student activities fund. The artistic director will be responsible for and overseeing all people involved with set design and construction, costuming, lighting, sound, etc. as determined by the high school principal and production director.• Approved Andrew Kern as assistant director for the fall play and spring musical for the Northern Lehigh High School Theater Group. The stipend will be $500, and will be paid out of the high school student activities fund.
