Police in Palmerton responded to two incidents involving animals acting strangely on Friday, but they say there is no danger to the public.
One incident involved a skunk that was spotted in the area of 720 Church Street. A resident called police because they thought the skunk was walking in circles. Police responded and noted that the animal did not come in contact with any humans, and display any other outward signs of illness, Chief Randolph Smith said.A sanitation worker trapped the animal and released it into the woods, Smith said.Cory Bentzoni, an officer with the Pennsylvania Game Commision, said that he was dispatched but the skunk had been moved before he arrived. He said that the skunk's behavior could have been attributed to distemper, a virus, or trauma from being hit by a car, not necessarily rabies. In another, unrelated incident, a resident reported finding an "aggressive snake" near their home. Bentzoni said that the homeowner took it to the woods and released it before police arrived.
