Guitar parts stolen from package at Palmerton music shop

Palmerton police are investigating a theft from Prodigy Studios that occurred on Wednesday morning.

Surveillance footage from a camera mounted inside the local studio and music shop caught an unnamed person stealing the contents of a package from outside the storefront at about 9:35 a.m.“A kid came from the direction of Spillane’s Fit with a gym bag. He placed the gym bag in front of the store, checked to see if anyone was watching him, opened the package, took the items and left the package,” Tony Oriolo, Prodigy Studios owner, said.Oriolo said that the package contained guitar parts that the shop uses for repairs. In the four years since he first opened the shop, Oriolo has not had any problems with thieves.“It’s never happened before, not that I know of,” he said.Oriolo had shared videos from the theft, including a close-up clip of the perpetrator, through his Facebook account on Wednesday.“This happened yesterday morning, and the video’s been viewed more than 10,000 times,” Oriolo said. While the suspect has yet to be officially identified or apprehended, there is a person of interest. The close-up video is labeled with a description by Oriolo: “We have a mail thief in Palmerton. Does anyone recognize this kid?” Oriolo said he’s 17-19 years old and 6-foot, 3-inches tall.In the footage, the suspect appears to have light-colored, close-cropped hair, and is wearing a dark sleeveless T-shirt with dark shorts.Palmerton businesses have been contributing to the investigation, providing additional photos and footage of the suspect.“I was given a name, I looked it up on Facebook. It looks like the kid, but you can’t point fingers without totally knowing,” Oriolo said.As the investigation is ongoing, few details are available from local law enforcement.“Everything that we know has been posted on Facebook and Twitter,” Palmerton Police Chief Randy Smith said. When asked if there was a problem with mail theft in the area, Smith said that this was the first case he has heard of.“The police took the package, said they were going to dust it or spray it for fingerprints. That’s what they told me,” Oriolo said.Smith said he will not know about the particulars until the package is done being processed.“It’s just a matter of time before this guy is caught. I don’t need my mail stolen, regardless of what’s in it,” Oriolo said.Additional information concerning the identity or whereabouts of the suspect can be directed to the Palmerton Police Department’s non-emergency phone line, 1-800-452-1813.
