Bail sought for teen charged in fatal knife fight in alley

SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) - A defense attorney is seeking bail for a teenager ordered to stand trial in the stabbing death of a woman in a northeastern Pennsylvania alley.

The (Scranton) Times-Tribune (http://bit.ly/2aqctuO ) reports that attorney Christopher Osborne filed a petition for bail Thursday on behalf of his 16-year-old client. He says the evidence will show that she wrestled a knife away and stabbed 18-year-old Kayla VanWert in self-defense as the two fought May 29 in the Scranton alley.Osborne also cited his client's age and ties to the community as well as what he called her "very limited connection to the criminal justice system."He's also seeking to have the case moved to juvenile court.Investigators the fight stemmed from an argument on social media over the father of VanWert's year-old daughter.---Information from: The Times-Tribune,
