Sunday turned out to be the perfect day to honor our veterans during for the annual Carbon County Veterans Day Parade.
The four-division parade, held this year in Nesquehoning, began promptly at 2 p.m., with Nesquehoning Police Chief Sean Smith and borough Mayor Sam Kitchko leading the Pennsylvania State Police Mounted Patrol Unit.There was a good turnout of participants, ranging from Girl and Boy scout troops and high school marching bands; to veterans from various Legions, VFWs and UVOs.It took approximately an hour for the divisions to march by.There were eight band, including Panther Valley, Jim Thorpe, Palmerton, Lehighton and Weatherly high schools; as well as the Wind Gap Blue Eagle Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps, Perseverance Jazz Band and Rajah Shrine Oriental Band.In addition to bands and area veterans organizations, highlights included a five-ton cargo truck and troop carrier; area fire companies and the Forks of Delaware Tin Lizzies, driven Rajah Shrine members.
