The recently organized Lehigh Canal Recreation Commission has named Albert Lichty, the mayor of Weissport, to serve as its president.

A meeting was held Thursday at the Lehighton Municipal Building, where the commission was formally organized and its official name selected.

Mayor Wilbur Bauchspies of Lehighton was elected vice president and Reuben Hill of Franklin Township was named secretary and treasurer.

Other commission members include Lamar Houser, Parryville, Clair Rehrig, East Penn Township, and Richard Semmel of Lehighton. A delegate from Mahoning Township has yet to be named.
