The Palmerton Area Library had a very successful summer reading program this year, celebrating its local super heroes.
The Book Chain Contest will continue until Sept. 1. The library looks very colorful with the chain of almost 2,000 links draped on the mezzanine railing. Each link represents one book read since June. For those participating, please turn in all your links before Sept. 1. Prizes will be awarded in 5 different age categories.The library is gearing up for fall activities. Preschool Story Hour will resume on Sept. 4 at 10:30 a.m. and continue each week throughout the school year. This program is free and open to all. The Paws of Hope reading to dogs program will resume on Oct. 10 and continue on the second Saturday of each month through May. The program runs from 11 a.m. until noon and is free. Parents should call the library to schedule a time slot for their children to practice reading out loud to the dogs.Rachel's Music Together will be offering classes at the library this fall. These classes feature music and movement for children from birth to age 5 and the adults who love them. Free classes will be offered on the following dates: Aug. 25 at 10:30 a.m., Aug. 27 at 12:30 p.m., and Aug. 29 at 11 a.m. The fall semester will start on Sept. 1. The teens have been working all summer on the new painting and will continue in the fall until it is completed.The group meets on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. If you are interested in joining this group or finding out more about it, call the library at 610-826-3424 and ask for Tessa.The Knitting Club will meet on the first Monday of each month beginning on Oct. 5, from 6-8 p.m. in the conference room at the library. This club is free and open to anyone interested in knitting, crocheting or other fiber crafts regardless of skill level.The Third Monday Book Club will resume meeting on Sept. 15 at noon. The book being discussed will be "The Haystack" by James Mulligan. The author will be at the meeting to discuss the book and answer questions. New members are always welcome.The Friends of the Library will meet next on Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. at the library. If you are interested in helping the library, please come.The Sew What Quilt Guild meets at the library on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. New members and visitors are always welcome. Please use the side door next to the ramp.The library will offer a series of computer classes beginning in September. Classes for beginners, plus those wanting to learn excel and word and social media will be offered.Please call the library to get your name on the waiting list as the classes are small and fill up quickly. Dates and times will be announced soon.Mark your calendars on Oct. 11 for the ninth Annual Quilt Show sponsored by the Sew What Quilt Guild at the library.The show will be held from noon until 4 p.m. If you are interested in displaying a quilt, please call the library or stop in and ask for Brenda.The library is open on Mondays and Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10-5; and on Saturdays from 9-1. In September regular Saturday hours will resume from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.The library has a calendar of events listed at
