A Nesquehoning man has been charged with assault and related offenses involving a 12-year-old boy.

Borough police officer Timothy Wuttke has charged Michael David Gonzales, 28, whose address is listed at 116 W. High St., with one count each of endangering the welfare of children, terroristic threats, attempted simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, and harassment.According to the affidavit of probable cause on Monday, Aug. 20, about 9:01 a.m. Wuttke was dispatched to 116 W. High St. for a domestic incident. On scene he was told by the person who called in the report, identified as Rebecca Orroyo, that her 12-year-old son, identified as T.A., was assaulted the day before by her husband, Gonzales. She claimed that he choked the boy unconscious and struck him in the face.Wuttke spoke with the boy who said he and Gonzales were walking in a wooded are between Nesquehoning and Lansford when they got into an argument over which trail to take. The boy said Gonzales became very angry and stuck him on the left side of the face with his palm and threatened to drown him in a puddle and leave him in the woods for dead. He also proceeded to choke the boy with both hands.The boy said he lost consciousness briefly during the incident and when he came to Gonzales still had his hands around his neck.Wuttke said he observed the boy to have a lump and bruise on his left cheek and cuts on his neck along with discoloration as if a bruise was forming.Orroyo told Wuttke that when the boy and Gonzales arrived home he sent the boy to his bedroom. She said she noticed Gonzalez appeared to be agitated and asked him what happened. According to Orroyo, Gonzales told her that he choked the boy until he passed out and stated, "your lucky I did not leave him in the woods for dead." She said she waited to call police until Gonzales left the home because she was afraid of him.
