Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met June 14 at the Ryan Township Fire Company in Barnesville with 52 members and two guests, Donna Patterson and John Zukas, in attendance. The meeting included an installation of officers, including Bill Morrison, president; Eleanor Schmerfeld, vice president; Ruthann Feane, secretary; Shirley Becker, treasurer; and Norma Lee Burke, chaplain.Burke offered the invocation, and a moment of silence was held in memory of the Orlando shooting victims. Two new members, Donald Miller and Sharon Haldeman, were welcomed to the group.A number of upcoming events were discussed, including a June 21 trip to the Mohegan Sun Casino and a Nov. 15 visit to Samson-Lancaster.The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at the fire company. The next meeting will be held July 12. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.Soup socialThe next monthly community soup social at Trinity United Church of Christ will be held Saturday. The social will be held from 4-6 p.m. in the social hall.The meal is free to the public and everyone is welcome to enjoy the soup, desserts, refreshments and time with friends.For more information or to volunteer, stop by the church, 22 Lafayette St., or call 570-668-4139.Tamaqua seniorsThe Tamaqua Senior Citizens met June 16 with 56 members in attendance. President Melody Weicker conducted the business session.Diane Gould provided an inspirational reading for Father's Day. A moment of silence was held in honor of Vern Balliet. Joe Bednarik, Joan Wall and Shirley Shellhammer were added to the sick list. A prayer was said for the victims of the Orlando shooting.Upcoming events include July 18, trip to Shady Maple; Aug. 11, picnic at the West Penn Rod and Gun Club in Clamtown.The next meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St.The group is open to anyone 55 or older, and the YMCA is handicap accessible.Bethany ECThe Rev. Kevin Roberts officiates at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday services in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.Activities for next week include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m., ministry council meets at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m., TYM staff meeting at 8 p.m.; Thursday, worship team meets at 6:30 p.m., worship team leaders meet at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, workday starts at 9 a.m.Trinity VBSTrinity United Church of Christ on Lafayette Street will hold a "Cave Quest" Vacation Bible School from July 11-15.
