First deputy in Schuylkill prothonotary office resigns

Albert Gricoski, the first deputy in the Schuylkill County Prothonotary’s Office, has resigned.

Gricoski said Tuesday he resigned because his son is doing online schooling and wanted to be home when needed and to focus more on his funeral business.

Deciding to step away from the position isn’t something he took lightly.

“It was coming to that decision,” he said about leaving the role.

He said he enjoyed working with Prothonotary Bridget Miller.

“Bridget was wonderful to work alongside,” he said.

The announcement of Gricoski’s departure was mentioned at Wednesday’s commissioners meeting. He had been first deputy prothonotary since 2019. The former prothonotary David Dutcavich resigned in last year. He said his family was his main reason for leaving.

Commissioners praised Gricoski’s effort for the people of the county.

Commissioner George Halcovage Jr. thanked him for his service.

“He came in as first deputy under prothonotary Dutcavich and came in and basically where there was some concern about some financial items that were going on, Mr. Gricoski came in and did a great job cleaning those up. He then became the acting prothonotary, and I think did an exemplary job in that,” Halcovage said.

When prothonotary Bridget Miller was elected she asked Gricoski to be the first deputy.

“I know they had a great working relationship and did a great job,” Halcovage said.

Commissioners’ Chairman Barron “Boots” Hetherington also expressed gratitude for Gricoski’s dedication.

Human Resources Director Deborah Twigg said Gricoski submitted his resignation about a week ago.
