Ex-boyfriend charged in fatal stabbing

A Schuylkill County man has been jailed, charged with stabbing to death his ex-girlfriend.

State police at Frackville identified the suspect as Nathaniel Joseph Kimmel, 22, of 12 N. Richards St., Girardville. The victim was identified as April Mahmod, 37, of 106 S. Catherine St., Shenandoah.

According to troopers, on Sunday at 6 a.m. Mahmod returned to her home from work. Kimmel was lying in wait and attacked her at her residence. The victim fled to her neighbors, 104 S. Catherine St. Kimmel followed and stabbed her repeatedly while she was on the porch.

Other neighbors heard noise and came outside to see what was going on. Kimmel then ran from the scene, but was located several hours later and taken into custody.

Deputy Coroner Andrew Szczyglak pronounced Mahmod dead at the scene.

Szczyglak said a virtual autopsy is scheduled for Monday. Schuylkill County Coroner David J. Moylan III said an autopsy will be conducted at The Dauphin County Forensic Center later this week.

Kimmel was arraigned before District Judge Christina E. Hale of Frackville on homicide and related counts.

Kimmel was committed to the county prison in Pottsville without bail.
