Residents awoke to sub zero temperatures today, after a day of snow Tuesday. Schools in the area are closed, with the exception of Weatherly and Tamaqua Area School District, which remain on a two-hour delay.
Most of the region was spared the high snow amounts that hit the Lehigh Valley. Walnutport was hit harder and is under a snow emergency until 4 p.m.The digital thermometer at the ESSA bank in Brodheadsville read minus 5 at 5:45 a.m.John Stoj of Towamensing Trails in Penn Forest Township, topped that. Or should we say he went lower, with minus 8 degrees at 5:55 a.m.And Helena Barker of Lansford posted a photo of the TIMES NEWS Facebook page of a mercury thermometer showing minus 13.Lisa Stroup chimed in, "10 below in Palmerton. all I know is it is freezing!!!!!"Other temperatures around the region included: minus 8 in Lake Harmony, minus 6 in Weatherly and minus 3 in Lehighton.Don't wait around for the temperatures to warm up. The National Weather Service says today will be mostly sunny, with the temperatures climbing to near 11. Wind chill values will be as low as -25.
