A male driver was seriously injured this afternoon in a crash along Route 248 in Lower Towamensing Township.

The crash occurred at 12:30 p.m. as he was traveling west in a PennDot construction zone just before the Palmerton exit.

His car veered to the right, entering the berm and  crashing through a chain link fence then hitting a tree head-on.

 Members of the Aquashicola fire company had to extricate the victim from the wreckage. He was treated at the scene by members of the Palmerton ambulance and Lehighton paramedics then flown by MedEvac helicopter to a Lehigh Valley trauma center.

State police at Lehighton are investigating the incident.
