Weissport continues search for new zoning officer
Weissport’s Borough Council is looking for a new zoning and code enforcement officer, but has been unable to successfully locate a potential candidate.
Additionally, anticipated projects the borough had hoped to begin are put on hold.
Months ago the borough, along with police Chief Matthew Williams, looked into purchasing and installing speed bumps for a specified location where people often fail to stop near the playground.
Without an engineer who can provide traffic and safety guidance while surveying the location, it is not possible to begin the project.
Williams released his statistical crime data for July 20 through Aug. 17. Williams responded to 23 calls requesting police assistance, issued warnings and made six criminal arrests in the borough within the past four weeks.
Movie night
In other news, Sam Carey from the Hope Community Fellowship Church was in attendance to report that the church is requesting to utilize the borough park to hold the previously postponed family movie night in the park.
The church-sponsored event is free for all. The movie title has yet to be determined, however, Carey said that it will be a family movie and will likely be animated. The event will allow for proper social distancing guidelines as families can gather far away enough from other families in order to adhere to safety practices.
Families are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs as to relax and enjoy the film. It is recommended to bring snacks and drinks along with a small bag for families’ individual garbage.
Fliers will be sent out to borough residents advertising the event, which is set to be held on Sept. 25, with a rain date of Sept. 26.
Carey also reported that the clean up your neighborhood day held earlier this month was an overall success, although many residents didn’t seek out any help from volunteers. A great deal of trash was picked up along streets, grass was cut and a couple exterior of homes were power washed as well.
