The Schuylkill County Prison board Thursday voted to hire David Wapinsky, 50, who was acting warden, to become warden of the Schuylkill County Prison.
Wapinsky had been the acting warden since previous Warden Eugene Berdanier retired in May.
Wapinsky started working at the prison as a 21-year-old part-time corrections officer.
President Judge William E. Baldwin, who chairs the prison board, said he believed Wapinsky is the right man for the job.
District Attorney Michael O’Pake and Sheriff Joseph Groody agreed.
“The cooperation has been phenomenal,” O’Pake said.
