Boroughs declare snow emergencies

Lansford and Weatherly are both implementing snow emergency procedures ahead of tonight's storm.

Weatherly Borough is under a snow ban. Residents should move their cars as stated in the snow ban ordinance.In Lansford, parking restrictions will be in place between 7 p.m. Wednesday and 7 p.m. Thursday.Water Street, Kline Avenue and Snyder Avenue will be no parking on both sides.Mayor James Romankow said that it will allow crews to plow those narrow streets first to make way for emergency vehicles.The south side of Patterson Street is also no parking.Patterson Street is the designated snow emergency route. Vehicles are required to have snow tires or chains.Violators will be ticketed and towed.Romankow encouraged residents to check on elderly neighbors during the storm.Summit Hill reminds residents of the winter parking regulations.It is the responsibility of the borough to treat and clear any streets in the event an accumulation of snow in excess of 3 inches occurs or a substantial ice builds up on the street surfaces.In order to begin clearing the streets, no vehicle shall be parked on the odd numbered (south and east) sides of the streets between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. during any snow/ice storm where there has been an accumulation of 3 inches or more. Those sides shall remain free of vehicles until they have been cleared by the borough.On the day following, no vehicle shall be parked on the even numbered (north and west) sides of the streets between the hours of 8 and 6 p.m. on the day following the clearing of the odd numbered sides of the streets. Those sides shall remain free of vehicles until they have been cleared by the Borough.At no time after the accumulation of 3 inches of snow or during a snow/ice storm, shall any vehicle be parked in any alley until the alley is treated and cleared by the borough. In the event the snow accumulation reaches 3 inches or the ice begins to buildup before 8 a.m., all vehicles must be removed by 8 a.m. and remain removed until the alley is treated and cleared.Violators will be fined.
