Ian Hubbard and Jared Marykwas both slugged home runs Saturday to help Jim Thorpe outscore Palmerton, 17-9, in a Connie Mack exhibition game.

Marykwas connected for a three-run shot in the fourth inning, while Hubbard belted a two-run blast during Thorpe’s seven-run sixth.

Spencer Hunsicker collected three hits (single, double, triple) and scored once for the winners, while Evan Murphy finished with three singles and a run. Thorpe also received two hits from Marykwas, and a hot and two runs scored from Chip Baldassano.

Palmerton was led by Randon Solt, who collected two hits, two runs and two RBIs. Trevor Stroup chipped in with a hit and knocked in two runs, while Nate Stroup scored three runs.

Jim Thorpe used three pitchers in the contest, with DJ Richenbacher tossing the first three innings. Richenbacher allowed one hit, one run and struck out four.

SCHUYLKILL-BERKS INDEPENDENT LEAGUE

Tamaqua-Wyomissing

Wyomissing gained a sweep over Tamaqua Sunday in a Schuylkill-Berks doubleheader.

The Blue Sox fell by an 8-2 score in the first game before losing 11-1 in the second.

In the first game, Wyomissing broke a tie in the fifth inning and pulled away for the victory.

Darren Brunner had three hits and scored three for the winners, who tallied three times in both the fifth and sixth.

Luke VanBuskirk gave Tamaqua a 1-0 lead in the first when he doubled home Mason Moyer. The Blue Sox extended their lead to 2-0 an inning later as Nick Fannock delivered an RBI single to plate Logan Hess.

The pitching of Ian Brunner and Trevor Beane, however, kept Tamaqua off the board the rest of the way.

Moyer and Chris Osenbach had the other hits for the Blue Sox.

In the second game, Kolbie Reeser and Darren Brunner both had two hits and scored three runs for the Warriors.

Tamaqua manged just two hits, an RBI single from Osenbach and a single by Hess.
