A look back: July 24, 1962

John C. Harkins, Lansford native, was named head football coach at a special meeting of the Lansford High School Board of Education last night.

Harkins will replace Richard Forster, who recently resigned to accept the head football coaching duties at Bangor High School. Harkins is also head basketball coach of the Panthers, a position he has held for the past two seasons. He will receive $400 a year for his football duties and $300 for tutoring basketball.

Vincent Spisak, a Lansford High School graduate, was elected to fill a faculty vacancy created by Forster’s resignation at a salary of $4,000. He will also be paid $250 as an assistant football coach, $150 to assist Harkins on the court and $100 as an assistant baseball coach.
