Ward, 76, of Barnesville, and Alexis Erin Trexler, 26, of Tamaqua, were both southbound with Ward behind Trexler. Trexler stopped due to traffic ahead of her while Ward was distracted and did not see traffic stopping ahead of her. She applied her brakes but could not stop.
The front of Ward’s 2012 Volkswagen Jetta hit the rear of Trexler’s 2007 Hyundai Tucson.
No one was injured. The Jetta was towed.
Ward was cited for careless driving.

Caravella, 22, of Mahanoy Plane, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt northbound in the left lane when he lost control of the vehicle due to driving too fast for conditions, troopers said. The vehicle crossed into the right lane and onto the berm where it struck a concrete barrier with its front end. The Cobalt came to rest facing north on the right shoulder.
Caravella sustained a suspected minor injury to his face and was treated at the scene by Frackville EMT unit personnel. The Cobalt sustained major damages and had to be towed.
