A Northumberland County driver was jailed Wednesday after leading state police at Pocono on a high-speed chase along the northeast extension of the turnpike in Kidder Township, Carbon County.
Troopers said at 7:32 p.m. a red Chevrolet Camaro was observed traveling 98 mph in a 70 zone. Troopers attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver refused and a pursuit began with speeds in excess of 120 mph.
As the driver was attempting to exit the turnpike at the Hickory Run Service Plaza, he lost control going around a curve. The Camaro went off the ramp and hit a concrete barrier, bounced off the barrier, knocking off the driver’s side front tire dislodged from the vehicle.
The driver, identified as Wilbert Lyndon Turner, 27, of Sunbury, was taken into custody and suffered no injuries. He was transported to the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital for a blood test.
He was charged with fleeing and attempting to elude police, possession of a controlled, possession of a small amount of marijuana, driving under the influence and summary offenses.
He was arraigned before a district judge and committed to the county prison in Nesquehoning, failing to post $10,000 bail.
