A total of 18 defendants charged with driving under the influence (DUI) and related counts, entered guilty pleas on Thursday in Carbon County court during a daylong session.

Judge Steven R. Serfass accepted the pleas from the following:Robert Matthew Ruzicka, 22, of Lehighton, pleaded to two counts of DUI in two pending cases.He was arrested on Oct. 12, 2012, by state police at Lehighton, along SR248 in Franklin Township. The second arrest occurred on Dec. 19, 2012, by Lehighton police along Second St. In both cases a test was adminsitered and the results showed the presence of a controlled substance.On the first count Serfass sentenced him to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, one year license suspension, get a drug and alcohol (drug and alcohol) evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, and render 25 hours of community service.On the second count the same sentence was imposed, consecutive to the first.He will begin the jail term at 6 p.m. June 28.Jamin T. Zimmerman, 33, of Lehighton, pleaded in two pending cases. He was arrested on July 31, 2011, by state police at Lehighton along S. First St. in Lehighton. He refused a blood test. The second arrest occurred on Sept. 15, 2012, along Bankway in Lehighton, by state police. Given a test, the result was 0.14 blood alcohol content.On the first count Serfass placed him on probation for six months and ordered he pay a fine of $300 and render 25 hours of community service.On the second count he was sentenced to serve 90 days to five years in jail, a fine of $1,500, get a drug and alcohol evaluation, and render 100 hours of community service.The jail term will be served with 30 days in jail followed by 60 days in the county's Intermediate Punishment Program (IPP) with electronic monitoring.The jail and probation time run concurrent. He was given credit for five days spent in a detox center and will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. on June 29 and serve it on consecutive weekends.Steven Troy Overpeck, 41, of Bangor, was arrested on Jan. 30, 2012, by state police at Lehighton, along SR209 in Lehighton. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.He was sentenced to serve three to six months in priosn, and get a drug and alcohol evaluation. He will begin the jail term at 6 p.m. June 28. The plea agreement states he is not eligible for early parole.Bonnie Lou Hahn, 54, of Weissport, was arrested on Dec. 18, 2012, by state police at Lehighton along Maury Road in Penn Forest Township after being involved in an accident. Given a test, the result was 0.25 BAC.Sentencing was deferred to a later date.Bruce P. Serfass, 46, of Lehighton, was arrested on Jan. 17 by state police at Lehighton along White St., in Weissport. Given a test, the result was 0.17 BAC.A first offense, he was placed on probation for six months and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, render 25 hours of community service, and pay a fine of $300.Daniel Gruber, 39, of Lehighton, was arrested on March 17 along East Alley by Lehighton police. Given a test, the result was .18BAC.Serfass placed him on probation for six months and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation, render 25 hours of community service, and pay a fine of $300.Joseph M. Hancharick Jr., 53, of Lehighton, was arrested on March 15 along First St., by Lehighton police. Given a test, the result was 0.18 BAC.He was placed on probation for six months and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, render 25 hours of community service, and pay a fine of $300.Thomas Otto, 58, of Jim Thorpe, was arrested on March 10 along Center St., Jim Thorpe, by state police at Lehighton. Given a test, the result was 0.14 BAC.Serfass sentenced him to serve five days to six months in jail, a fine of $300, one year license suspension, get a drug and alcohol evaluation, and render 25 hours of community service.He began the jail term immediately.John C. Koons Sr., 57, of Jim Thorpe, was arrested on April 7, 2012, along SR2015 by Franklin Township police, after being involved in an accident. Given a test, the result was 0.20 BAC.Serfass sentenced him to serve 48 hours in jail, followed by five months and five days in the county's IPP, with the first 28 days on electronic monitoring, pay a fine of $750, one year license suspension, and get a drug and alcohol evaluation.He begins the jail term at 9 a.m. on June 21.William John Gordon Jr., 74, of Palmerton, was arrested on July 27, 2012, along Penn Ave., in Lower Towamensing Township, by state police at Lehighton. Given a test, the result was 0.11 BAC.He was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300.Steven R. Matson, 38, of Nesquehoning, was arrested on March 20 along Mauch Chunk St., by Mahoning Township police. Given a test, the result showded the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred to a later date.Danny William Roberts, 50, of Albrightsville, was arrested on Jan. 15 along Trachsville Road, in Lower Towamensing Township by state police at Lehighton. Given a test, the result was 0.17 BAC.Sentencing was deferred to a later date.William R. Schoener, 23, of Lehighton, was arrested on Feb. 3 in a parking lot of Lehighton High School by state police at Lehighton. Given a test, the result was 0.12 BAC.He was placed on probation for six months and ordered to render 25 hours of community and pay a fine of $300.Russell Nelson, 32, of Tamaqua, was arrested on Aug. 24, 2012, along Blakeslee Blvd, by Lehighton police. Given a test, the result was 0.10 BAC.Serfass placed him on probation for six months and ordered he pay a fine of $300 and get a drug and alcohol evaluation.Stephanie Roman, 28, of Albrightsville, was arrested on Oct. 24, 2011, along Bankway by Lehighton police. Given a test, the result was 0.11 BAC.She was previously placed in the county's Accelerated Rehabilitation Dispositon (ARD) probation program for first time offenders but was revoked for violating conditions.Serfass placed her on probation for six months and ordered her to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, and pay a fine of $300.Steven Eric Deboer, 54, of Parryville, was arrested on Sept. 21, 2012, along Fireline Road, in Lower Towamensing Township, by state police at Lehighton. He refused a test.Sentencing was deferred to a later date.Keith Richard McCarty, 21, of Easton, was arrested on March 28 along SR209 in Franklin Township by state police at Lehighton. Given a test, the result showed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred to a later date.Each defendant sentenced must pay court costs, which average close to $1,000, and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
