Spectators will soon gravitate to the Covered Bridge Inn in anticipation of a falling shamrock.
The dropping of the 1,000-light shamrock, along with the 10th annual St. Patty's Day Parade in Little Gap Square, are among the highlights for St. Patrick's Day 2015.The five-day event kicks off Thursday with the Inn's Green Solo Cup Party with Penn's Peak Radio DJ "The Doctor" spinning favorite from 6:30-9:30 p.m. In addition, there will be Irish wings and green Patty sauce, along with Irish pizza.Friday evening there will be an authentic Irish cuisine prepared by executive chef Daniel Washburn, along with the Inn's regular menu, as soft Irish music plays in the background.On Saturday, festivities will begin with the 10th annual St. Patty's Day Parade in Little Gap Square. The parade will be led by Piper Dave, and will feature Scottish Highland shaggy cows, decorated goats, dogs, and other interesting animals along with tractors, cars and floats.Ron Gilbert, owner of the Inn, said everyone is invited to wear their green and join in the parade as it makes its way in Little Gap Square.After the parade, the celebration will move inside the Inn with The Doctor providing Irish favorites. Then at 10 p.m. the crowd will gather out at the square for the Shamrock Drop to see the lighted shamrock drop 50 feet from the sky.At 11 a.m. Sunday, the Inn will serve an Irish farm breakfast, along with the Irish specials. An after-ski party will be held for those who want to enjoy the Irish experience with green wings and green beer. Jeni Hackett will provide the acoustic entertainment from 4-7 p.m.On Tuesday, St. Patrick's Day, the Inn will open for an Irish Happy Hour, where it will serve all the Irish fare, along with jumbo corned beef tacos.The Covered Bridge Inn is located at the base of Blue Mountain Ski Area in the village of Little Gap.For more information, call 610-826-5400.
