Weatherly Borough Police, headed by Chief Raymond Weichman, are believed to be the first to be equipped with liquid mace, which has come highly recommended by the FBI and state police as a means of overpowering individuals involved in rioting, thefts and other crimes.
Chief Weichman and Borough President Clarence Boyed accepted the services of Eugene Rossi, Weatherly, who volunteered to be the “man involved in an attempted theft,” and who also voluntarily agreed to the “mace treatment.” It took 15 minutes after Rossi was shot with the mace before his vision cleared sufficiently for him to move about unaided.
