Yelito voted out in Coaldale
The voters of Coaldale accomplished what the Schuylkill County District Attorney had been trying and that is remove a councilman from office because he has a past felony criminal conviction for dealing in illegal drugs.
At Tuesday's Municipal General Election David J. Yelito lost his seat on council. There were contests in three other area boroughs for mayor and council seats.CoaldaleYelito lost his bid for re-election after being targeted by the county DA to be removed from office because state law prohibits a person with a felony conviction to serve in public office. Although Yelito's conviction was over 20 years ago, there is no statute of limitations written into the law. Yelito has a court hearing on the petition filed by the DA to remove him from office. That petition is probably moot now.His two fellow Republican runningmates, Linda M. Miller, with 251 votes, and Harry R. Hontz, with 226 votes, were winners. Angela Krapf, Democrat, was the high vote getter with 259 votes. Losing out were Vincent R. Miller Sr., Democrat, who received 156 votes, and Yellito who came in last with 150 votes.In the contest for mayor, Richard R. Kellner, Republican, received 248 votes defeating Joel Johnson, Democart, who received 225 votes. Kellner will replace Richard Corkey, who did not seek re-election. Corkey is facing criminal charges in Carbon County and is scheduled for trial in January.Catherine M. Papish was unopposed for tax collector receiving 458 votes.TamaquaThere were no contests and the winners were:Mayor - Incumbent Christian Morrison was unopposed and received 836 votes.Council - Four year term, elect four, only three candidates were on the ballot, Incumbents John Trudich Jr., 687 votes; Micah Gursky, 659 votes; and David Mace, 602 votes. There were 42 writ-in votes.Council - Two year term, elect one, Justin D. Startzel, Republican, was unopposed and received 648 votes.Tax Collector - Pamela J. McCullion was unopposed and received 842 votes.Auditor - Six year term, no candidate on ballot but there were 32 write-in votes.McAdooThe Democratic Party made a clean sweep of the borough offices.In the mayor race, Stephan R. Holly, Democrat, received 414 votes and his opponent, Dane Watro, Republican, 292. Four years ago Watro defeated Holly for the job.In the tax collector contest, Andrew T. DeBalko, Democrat, received 441 votes and his opponent, Terry Sissick Kupres, Republican, 266.In the council fight, Joseph A. Madochick, 411 votes; John J. Shigo, 379 votes; and Robert S. Wills, 390 votes, all Democrats, won over Republicans Edward J. Bielen Sr., 290 votes; Jason Trimmell, 264 votes; and Brian Welch, 263 votes.MiddleportIn a heated contest for mayor, John Leshko, Republican, with 74 votes nosed out Carol A. Oswald, Democrat, by two votes. She received 72 votes. There are three write-in votes to be counted at a later date which could turn the election or increase Leshko's margin of victory.In the contest for council, elect three, the winners were Wendy A. Dempsey, Republican, 90 votes; John R. Difilippo, Jr., Republican; and Joseph A. Rolenaitis, Democrat, each receiced 81 votes. Runner-ups were, Joseph Skripko, Democrat, 65 votes; and Scott T. Jones, Republican, 47 votes. There were 68 write-ins which could have a impact on the final results.There was no contest for tax collector as Marian Donlin, Democrat, was unopposed and garnered 140 votes.New PhiladelphiaIn the contest for mayor, incumbent Frances Gaters Tkach, Democrat, with 214 votes, thrashed her opponent, Hunter Rulavage, Republican, who received 70 votes.In the council race, elected four, an Independent candidate was one of the winners. Timothy McNavage tied for highest vote getter with Christine Carey, Democrat, each had 196 votes. The third winner was Emily Boldt, Democrat, with 188 votes. The runner-ups were Frank Evans, 149 votes, and Dennis A. Faust, 143 votes, both Democrats.In the contest for council, two year term, there were no candidates listed but there were 16 write-in votes cast.For tax collector, Robert J. Franta, Democrat, was unopposed and received 262 votes.New RinggoldThere were no contests and the winners were:Mayor - John Belsak, 45 votes.Council - Four year term, there were only two candidates on the ballot, Jason Gradwell, Republican, who receivced 37 votes, and Roger Freed, Democrat, 31 votes. There were eight write-in votes.
