Woman dies after sliding on black ice on 903

A Lansford woman died after a two-car crash Saturday morning on Kattner’s Mountain on Route 903 in Jim Thorpe.

Borough police Chief Joe Schatz said responders were dispatched to the crash at 9:24 a.m. for a report of a woman heavily entrapped in her car.

Schatz said Revonna Fenstermaker, 24, of Lansford, was operating her 1999 Ford Taurus Sedan when her vehicle hit a patch of black ice and slid across the roadway and was struck broadside by a 2010 Acura operated by Sierra Hunsicker, 22, of Jim Thorpe.

Fenstermaker died as a result of the crash.

Hunsicker was transported to the hospital with moderate injuries.

Both vehicles were disabled from the crash, Schatz said.

He said the crash remains under investigation.

Also assisting at the scene were the Jim Thorpe Fire Department, Penn Forest Fire Police, Lehighton Ambulance and Lehighton ALS.

A GoFundMe account was started Saturday by Carabeth Scheffelman.

“We lost an amazing person, mom, sister, friend, soldier, painter, seamstress, writer and more today in a tragic car accident,” Scheffelman said. “This is by far one of the hardest things we have to go through in life.”

Scheffelman added, “Losing someone you love, care about, so unexpectedly and so young is hard and unbearable. We’re setting this fundraiser up to help Revonna’s family with expenses (funeral cost, but most importantly so her two beautiful baby girls will be able to come and say goodbye to their mom).”

“We understand times are hard, but any little bit will help,” she said. “Please take a moment to donate so Revonna’s girls can say goodbye and to help Revonna’s family with the cost.”

As of press time, $275 of the $10,000 goal had been raised.
