More than 200 people yesterday attended dedication services of a Freedom Tree, a dwarf Japanese red maple, on the grounds of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Lansford.
The tree and plaque reads, “The Freedom Tree with the vision of universal freedom for all mankind. This tree is dedicated to Lt. Col. Anthony R. Giannangeli and all Prisoners of War and Missing in Action, especially those from Pennsylvania.”
Lt. Col. Giannangeli, in service more than 18 years, was listed as missing in action on April 2, 1972, when the aircraft carrying six men on a radar-jamming mission to South Vietnam was struck by a surface-to-air missile and went down in Laos.
