Lehigh couple killed in Rt. 145 crash

A Lehigh County couple were killed in a crash when their motorcycle and a truck collided along Route 145 in North Whitehall Township.

State police at Bethlehem identified the deceased as Robert J. O’Rourke, 55, and Mary C. O’Rourke, 54, of Allentown.

Troopers said the crash occurred at 3:05 p.m. Sunday with O’Rourke driving a 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan northbound and Devon M. Lindeman, 22, of Freemansburg, operating a 2020 Freightliner truck southbound.

Lindeman was negotiating a left hand curve when the truck began to veer off the west side. The truck continued on the west shoulder for about 34 feet before re-entering the southbound lane. Lindeman attempted to regain control of the truck but overcompensated and veered into the northbound lane striking the bike head-on. The O’Rourkes were both thrown from the bike into an embankment on the east side of the road. The bike slid about 19 feet south before coming to final rest on the east shoulder.

The truck continued east and struck the guide rail on the east side. In continued east into an embankment where it rotated about 45-degrees and came to final rest in the embankment facing south on top of the bike.

The O’Rourkes were pronounced dead at the scene. Lindeman was injured and taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.

Troopers indicated Lindeman was cited for the crash.
