A few months after performing at the Stitch of the Tamaqua Community Arts Center, a high-profile stand-up comic is coming back to Tamaqua.
Liz Russo is celebrating nine years of sobriety and will host Stand up for Recovery Dry Humor night at 7 p.m. today.
Russo, who grew up in Easton, has previously appeared on FOX, CBS and Amazon Prime’s “Comics Watching Comics.” She has worked with Dave Chappelle, Tim Meadows, Gilbert Gottfried, Colin Quinn and many other stars of the industry.
Russo is open about her addiction, as she has overcome a ton of adversity in her life. Russo had multiple DUI convictions and spent a year in Northampton County Prison.
But she received treatment that saved her life, and she’s been sober since 2011. Russo earned her Certified Recovery Specialist accreditation from the Pennsylvania Certification Board. Now, people who come to hear Russo perform approach her after the show to speak about their personal battles.
The event is sober-friendly and guests must be at least 18 years old. Cost is $15 per person. Partial proceeds will benefit Hope & Coffee in Tamaqua.
