Area police report on crashes
Area police are reporting on the following crashes:
• State police at the Fogelsville barracks cited a Palmerton resident for failure to drive at a safe speed and driving too fast for conditions following a two-vehicle crash at 5:22 p.m. Dec. 20 on Interstate 78 in Upper Saucon Township.
Police said Kayja A. German, 18, was driving a 2004 Ford Explorer that rear-ended a 2017 Toyota RAV 4 driven by Caitlin O’Toole Kessler, 26, of Bethlehem.
Police said O’Toole Kessler sustained suspected minor injuries, as did a 12-year-old girl from Aquashicola, who was a passenger with German.
German was also cited for failure to produce the vehicle’s registration or certificate of title.
• No one was injured and two vehicles were damaged in a crash at 3:22 p.m. Dec. 18 at the intersection of Interchange and Koch roads in Towamensing Township.
State police at Lehighton said the incident took place in a line of traffic on Interchange Road while vehicles were awaiting turning onto Koch Road.
Police said a 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse was stopped behind multiple vehicles when the driver of a 2017 Toyota Corolla that was behind it was temporarily blinded by the sunset and could not stop in time. Police said the Corolla traveled onto the right side shoulder of Interchange Road to avoid a rear-end collision, but it sideswiped the Eclipse.
Both vehicles’ damages were termed non-disabling, police said.
• A New Jersey woman sustained minor injuries in a two-vehicle incident at 10:05 a.m. Dec. 10 on Route 33 in Wind Gap borough.
State police at the Stroudsburg barracks said Amy E. Barricelli, 43, of Blackwood, was hurt in the crash. She was driving a 2017 Mercedes-Benz.
Police said the other driver was Thomas Boyko, 50, of Lehighton, who was operating a 2015 Mack Truck. He was uninjured, as was Charles W. Thompson, 40, of Albrightsville, who was a passenger with Boyko.
Police said Barricelli was cited for careless driving.
• State police at Lehighton said no one was hurt and two vehicles sustained non-disabling damages in an incident at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 18 on Route 248 in Lower Towamensing Township.
Police said the incident occurred between the Route 873 intersection and the Palmerton exit of Route 248. It happened when a 1996 Dodge Caravan and a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze were both traveling west and in the right lane of travel. Police said the Cruze completed a change of lanes, going into the left lane of travel, and the operator of the Caravan attempted to change lanes without having clearance from traffic.
Police said the driver of the Cruze increased speed in an attempt to prevent the Caravan from moving into the left lane, but the driver’s side front mirror of the Caravan and the passenger’s side front mirror of two made contact, resulting in the minor damages.
Police did not release the names of drivers involved.
• A 16-year-old boy from Kempton was cited by state police at the Fogelsville barracks with failure to drive at a safe speed following a one-vehicle mishap at 8:45 a.m. Monday on Golden Key Road, just north of Werley’s Corner Road, in Weisenberg Township.
Police said he was driving a 1995 Ford Ranger south on Golden Key Road when he lost control of the vehicle while rounding a curve. The truck rolled onto its side in the field located off the right side of the roadway.
Police said the driver crawled out of the passenger-side window and got assistance in pushing the vehicle back onto its four wheels. He was uninjured.
The vehicle was towed from the scene.
• Two people were transported to the hospital after a one-car crash at 5:50 p.m. Wednesday on the Kunkletown Road in Ross Township.
State police at Lehighton said Nicholas C. Perez, 34, and Andrew J. Walter, 37, both of Harrington, Delaware, were taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono, East Stroudsburg, in the Wind Gap Ambulance.
Police said Perez was driving a 2012 Chrysler westbound on the Kunkletown Road and was driving at speeds that were too great for conditions. Police said he attempted to slow down by applying his brakes to avoid a deer that crossed the roadway and lost control of the vehicle.
The car traveled into the right shoulder of the roadway and struck a tree while its back end fish-tailed and the vehicle struck a second tree before coming to rest, police said.
