Palmerton Police seek suspect in attempted car break-ins

Palmerton police are attempting to identify a person who may have a hand in various car break-ins throughout the borough.

Borough police Chief Randy Smith said the car break-ins began on Jan. 21.

“We do have two juveniles (from the Palmerton area) that have been spoken to, and charges are pending,” Smith said. “Some of the items stolen from the cars have been recovered.”

Smith said those items include loose change, sunglasses, sunglass cases and other items of value.

However, he said it’s still an ongoing investigation.

The department posted a photo on Facebook looking for the identity of a person in connection with other break-ins.

“He was caught on camera pulling on the door handles of cars,” Smith said. “He was checking car doors finding that doors were locked, and for some odd reason, he ran on the porch of the house and rang the doorbell.”

“He’s still wanted,” he said. “We’ve got several names, but nothing that is credible at this point in time.”

“Don’t leave anything in your vehicles in sight,” he cautioned residents. “And always lock your car doors.”

Smith said anyone with information may contact the police department at 610-826-4055, or message them on Facebook.

They ask people not to post any names publicly.
