Several Carbon and Schuylkill county fire departments were called Saturday night to assist at an apartment building fire on East Green Street in West Hazleton.

West Hazleton, Hazleton, Freeland, Mahanoy City, McAdoo, Lehigh & Lausanne were on the scene at the three-alarm fire that was fully involved when firefighters arrived at 8 p.m. Flames were shooting through the roof, with heavy fire on the third floor.

At midnight, crews were still battling the stubborn blaze in below freezing temperatures.

Mahanoy City ‘s RIT team and Lehigh & Lausanne’s rehab unit were on scene, along with crews from Shenandoah,  Sugarloaf and Hazleton Valley Regional.

One firefighter was injured and taken to the hospital to be checked out.

The fire marshal said the blaze was suspicious.
