A Carbon County woman got a break this week in the county court when she pleaded guilty to a summary charge of disorderly conduct, while charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia were dropped.
Lorene M. Rice, 39, Palmerton, pleaded guilty to the charge before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II. She was scheduled to go on trial this week on the drug counts but reached a plea agreement with the district attorney's office in which the conduct charge was added to the original complaint.Rice was arrested by Palmerton police following a traffic stop at Mauch Chunk Road and Franklin Avenue on Sept. 10, 2015. Rice was a passenger in a truck operated by Robert Michael Pazienza, 25, of Kunkletown.Pazienza was charged with driving under the influence. He has pleaded guilty to that charge and is awaiting sentencing scheduled for March 15. Rice was found to have alprazolam (trade name Xanax) in her possession.Nanovic imposed a fine of $300 and costs.
