GoFundMe account set up for Palmerton man injured in crash

A GoFundMe account has been set up for a Palmerton man who was severely injured during a crash last month in Palmerton.

At 7:32 a.m. April 28, Jed McFarland was traveling to work on Little Gap Road when his vehicle was struck in a head-on collision.

Contributions toward McFarland can be made at https://www.gofundme.com/f/203ayvnxhc.

At press time, $3,446 of the $5,000 goal had been raised.

According to Amy Frantz, originator of the GoFundMe account, Team McFarland, On April 28, my longtime friend Jed was traveling to work when he was struck head-on in a collision. Jed was immediately transferred to Lehigh Valley Hospital sustaining severe injuries.”

Frantz said “Jed has a long road ahead of him with multiple surgeries scheduled, along with having to learn how to walk again. Jed is a Registered Nurse for the past 12 years. He dedicates his life to his wife and 2 children. Taking care of people is a passion of Jed’s.”

Frantz added, “I know these times are trying for everyone right now, if able please consider a donation to help them during this trying time.”

Frantz, a Licensed Practical Nurse at The Summit in Lehighton, said she and McFarland previously worked together at The Summit.

“We’ve known each other for a long time,” she said. “We’ve been neighbors.”

Frantz said McFarland, 42, is a 1996 graduate of Palmerton, while she is a 1998 graduate of Lehighton.

“Jed is in the hospital, and will be there for a while, and will be transferred to an acute rehab center,” she said. “He basically needs to learn how to walk again.”

Frantz said McFarland had to go through a couple surgeries, including reconstruction on his nose, and had to get some plates around his eyes because he was seeing double vision, which is now corrected.

“I believe two days ago was the first time they got him up to walk,” she said.

Frantz said she thought it only fitting to set up the account for someone as dedicated to helping others as McFarland is.

“He’s a registered nurse for 12 years, so a passion of his is always about helping others and taking care of people,” she said. “So, I just decided that it would be a good idea to reach out to the community during difficult time.”

She said McFarland is married to his wife, Rochelle, and together, they have two children, a son Jarek, 12, and daughter Reese, 5.

McFarland was injured when a 30-year-old Cresco man driving a U-Haul truck on Little Gap Road in Lower Towamensing Township while under the influence of drugs slammed his vehicle into McFarland’s Ford Focus.

State police at Lehighton said Alex Stewart was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge William Kissner of Palmerton on various charges, including a felony charge of aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, and was committed to the Carbon County Correctional Facility, Nesquehoning, in lieu of bail.
