Compassionate Friends

The Carbon County Chapter of the Compassionate Friends will meet from 7-9 p.m. Oct. 2 at the Ambulance Building, 501 Delaware Ave., Palmerton. This is an ongoing support group for parents, grandparents and adult siblings grieving the loss of a child, grandchild or sibling.

Zinc City

Zinc City Cycle Club, located on Route 209 (Trachsville area), will hold its Fall Foliage Poker Run, Bike Raffle and flea market on Sunday. Poker Run sign in time is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Refreshments, door prizes and grand prize drawing to follow in the Zinc City Grove around 5 p.m.

Chinese auction

A Chinese auction will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Church of Christ, Delaware Avenue, Palmerton. Food and refreshments will be available. All proceeds to benefit Mark Stetler.

Chicken dinner

The Bowmanstown/Parryville Lions Club will host a chicken dinner from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Trinity Lutheran Church Hall, 500 Ore St., Bowmanstown. Ticket includes roasted chicken, baked potato, corn on the cob, dessert and beverage. Walk-ins are welcome. To purchase tickets in advance, call 610-852-2992 or 610-377-5693. Meals also for takeout. All proceeds support local activities sponsored by the Lions Club.

Scarecrow displays

As in years past for the month of October, Palmerton businesses are invited to display a scarecrow depicting a theme of their business. This is not a contest. Palmerton residents are also invited to participate. This is a fun display of community spirit.

Concourse Club

The Palmerton Concourse Club is selling Friends Helping Friends Boscov’s tickets for Oct. 14. Anyone interested please call Joan Turko at 610-826-2716 or any other club member.

Knitting Club

The Knitting Club will meet from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Palmerton Area Library, 402 Delaware Ave., Palmerton. This is free and open to anyone interested in knitting or crocheting of all skill levels.

Library Teen Advisory Group

The Palmerton Area Library Teen Advisory Group for teens in grades 5-12 meets the first and third Thursdays of each month at 3:30 p.m. Call the library at 610-826-3424 and ask for Christine for details.

Adoptions from the Heart

Learn about infant adoption at the Palmerton Area Library at 6 p.m. Oct. 23. Come to this free information meeting. Call 610-365-4468 or visit www.afth.org to register.

Apple and Fall Fest

Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 545 Church Drive, Palmerton (Trachsville) will hold its Apple and Fall Fest from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 6 in the Picnic Grove. Music by God’s House Band Plus will be featured from noon to 3 p.m. There will be a Chinese auction and meat raffle with drawings at 3 p.m.

There will be homemade food including apple dumplings, shoo-fly pie, apple or regular sausage sandwiches, soup, barbecue, hot dogs and macaroni & cheese. There will be a wagon with fall items for decoration, apples and pumpkins. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the wonderful fellowship.

55 & Alive for Ladies

The 55 & Alive for Ladies group meets at Jerusalem United Church of Christ, Trachsville, meets the first and third Tuesday of each month. October meetings will be Oct. 2 and 13 at 11:30 a.m. Bring a bag lunch. Coffee, tea, water or soda will be provided.
