STROUDSBURG (AP) - A Monroe County vineyard is helping to reduce waste by producing eco-friendly corks.
WNEP-TV reports Randy Rice, owner of Stroudsburg's Mountain View Vineyards, decided to swap out synthetic and wooden corks for bottle stoppers made out of sugar cane. Rice says he felt his company had a responsibility to be green because the vineyard utilizes the environment for its product.Rice says sugar cane is easier to compost compared to artificial stoppers. The vineyard owner says sugar cane also grows faster than the bark from trees which is used to make conventional corks.Employees at the winery say they hope the industry follows suit and starts using the alternative corks.---Information from: WNEP-TV,
