In other business at last Tuesday's Chestnuthill Township supervisors meeting, the township has been very proficient in writing and in receiving grants in the past few years.
Township grant writer/IT professional John Matthews has been so busy with grant work that he has had no time to concentrate on the IT portion of his job.On Tuesday evening the supervisors agreed to hire Stephanie Smith as a grant writer/project coordinator for the township. Smith is a recent graduate of Catholic University, where she studied government. Smith worked at the township as an intern last year. Smith was hired at $16.83 per hour. The supervisors also agreed to submit an application for a grant for a Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program grant for 50 percent of the Hoffer property purchase. The other 50 percent would come from a DCNR grant which has already been submitted. The Hoffer property will be used a part of the parks and open spaces plan. The township has also received an Act 13 grant from Monroe County to build a handicap accessible fishing pier on Silver Valley Road at the old stone quarry.
