Children’s activities
• Story Time: Please check the list of summer reading activities for upcoming story times.
• Kids Sewing Camp from 2-3:30 p.m. on July 8, 9 and 10. Learn machine safety, hand and machine stitching basics, and complete some fun beginner projects. You must bring your own sewing machine, foot pedal, power cord, bobbin and spool of thread. Cost is $75 payable to the instructor, Elizabeth Campbell. For ages 8 and up. Please call the library to sign up.
• Puppet Show for children ages 5 to 9. Join us for a fun and educational puppet show all about personal space. Afterward, we’ll color some “space invaders” coloring sheets! Two shows: July 10 and July 13 at 10:30 a.m.
Activities for all
• Knitting Club meets the first Monday of each month from 6-8 p.m. Free and open to anyone interested in knitting and crocheting of all skill levels.
• Yoga classes are offered at 9 a.m. every Saturday. For more information, call 570-436-1762 or stop in on Saturday morning.
• Library Board of Directors meets at 4 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month. Meetings are open to the public.
• Friends of the Palmerton Area Library will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Everyone welcomed.
• Quilt Guild: The Sew What Quilt Guild meets at the library on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. New members and visitors are always welcome. Please use the side door.
• Blue Mountain Fiber Guild: Exploring all things related to fiber arts (spinning, weaving, etc.). No sheep necessary to join. Check it out on the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m.
• Our family history: Do you know who your family is? There’s a chance to find out. Come to the library on the second Tuesday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m. to learn how to research your family history.
• Qigong Class for Beginners, Mondays 5:30-6:30 p.m. Instructor: Kiki Peppard. Gentle, relaxing exercises that are coordinated to soft music, incorporating breathing with smooth, slow, flowing movement. For more information: 570-460-8485.
Golf tournament
Eighth Palmerton Area Library golf tournament, Aug. 23 at the Blue Shamrock Golf Club.
Highlights include hot dog and chips lunch, four-person scramble format, 18 holes of golf with cart, dinner buffet, purchase mulligans, contests and prizes, gift bag, and 50/50 raffle tickets.
Registration at noon, 1:30 p.m. shotgun start, dinner buffet and awards approximately 6 p.m. Not a golfer? Join us for the dinner buffet.
Summer reading
“A Universe of Stories”
Summer reading chain: For all ages, stop by the library to sign up. Each book read becomes a paper link in the community reading chain. The more you read, the more chances you have to win a great prize.
Preschool programs: Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. stories, songs and movement. Dates: July 11, 18, 25.
Kindergarten and first grade: Fridays at 10:30 a.m., stories, puppet show and crafts. Dates: July 12, 19 and 26.
Second through sixth grade: Fridays at 10:30 a.m., STEAM challenges and make and takes. Dates: July 12, 19 and 26.
Programs at Country Junction
Story Time for ages 0 to 5. Join us in the Movie Theater Room, next to the arcade, for stories, songs and book giveaways from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. July 16.
Library Arcade Invasion: The library is invading the arcade at Country Junction. School-age activities will include space-themed crafts and book giveaways from 6-7 p.m. July 17.
Programs in Bowmanstown
Story Time: Stories, songs and instruments for ages 0 to 5. We’ll meet at the Bowmanstown Borough Hall Playground, under the tree. Tuesdays 10 to 11 a.m. July 9, 16 and 23.
School Age Activities: fun space-themed crafts and activities. We’ll meet at the basketball court behind the Bowmanstown Borough Hall. Tuesdays 11 a.m. to noon. July 9, 16 and 23.
Teen Programs: Book Bingo Reading Challenges, complete the sheet to be entered for a prize. Sci-Fi Trivia Night, 6:30 p.m. July 18. Call the library to sign up.
Adult Programs: Book Bingo Reading Challenges, Complete the sheet to be entered for a prize.
Tuesday Tunes: 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Enjoy a themed music playlist paired with a display of books for checkout. July 9 and 23.
Reminder
The library will be closed on July 4. There are no summer reading programs the week of July 4.
