A large boat broke free from its parking spot at a Lower Towamensing Township home Wednesday, and rambled across a Carbon County road before crashing into a utilty pole. The incident occurred about 5:05 p.m. in the area of 1370 Hahns Dairy Road.
According to reports, the large boat was on its trailer in a backyard area of a residence when it rolled free. It picked up speed as it rolled down a hill section of the road.The utility pole snapped off when struck by the boat downing wires that caused electrical service to be interrupted for several hours for many customers.The road was shut down by PennDOT workers so a PPL Utilities repair crew could replace the pole and downed wires.No one was reported injured in the incident.A check this morning of PPL's website indicated only one customer was still without service.Also, state police at Lehighton, who are investigating, did not have any public information release report available this morning concerning the accident.
