Farmer dies following incident in East Penn Township

A farmer has died following an incident Wednesday evening in East Penn Township, according to Carbon County Coroner Robert Miller.

The situation occurred just after 6 p.m. along Smith Lane just north of Route 895.

According to reports from the scene, the farmer fell from a farm tractor and CPR was being applied.

The victim was treated at the scene by members of the Palmerton ambulance and two Lehighton paramedic units before being transported to the Lehighton hospital.

Miller said he could not disclose the name of the farmer until next of kin is notified. Miller said he thought the victim had a heart attack, which caused him to fall off the tractor.

“You just don’t fall off a tractor just like that. We think he had a heart condition because he did have a pacemaker.”
