A head-on crash on Route 33 Wednesday morning seriously injured a man from Lackawanna County.
The crash occurred around 5:45 a.m. on Pa. Route 33 in Plainfield Township, Northampton County.
The driver of a 2016 Toyota 4Runner was driving in the northbound lanes when he lost control and crossed the snow covered median into the southbound lanes. Police said speed may have been a factor.
The vehicle then struck a tractor trailer head on.
The driver of the Toyota, identified as 39-year-old Donald L. Welsch of Dunmore, Lackawanna County, was transported to St. Luke’s Bethlehem with serious injuries.
A medical helicopter responded but state police said Welsch was transported by Suburban EMS.
The driver of the tractor trailer, Wayne P. Baxter of Dallas, Luzerne County, was not injured.
Route 33 was closed for more than two hours as crews responded to the wreck.
