Lansford man in state rehab program

A Lansford man was placed in a special state program on Monday on five criminal charges.

Judge Steven R. Serfass sentenced Dylan Joseph Lavecchia, 23, to two years in the state intermediate punishment program on two counts each of access device fraud and theft, and one count each of corruption of a minor, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He previously pleaded to the charges. Before the start of the sentencing proceeding he pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia in another pending case.Lavecchia is currently an inmate at the state correctional institution at Camp Hill, Dauphin County, where he was placed by Serfass to be evaluated for the state IP program. The program includes about seven months in prison followed by a period of time in an intensive drug/alcohol rehabilitation program and then placement in a halfway house. If he fails to complete the program or is removed from it, then he would be returned to Carbon County to be resentenced by Serfass on all the charges.Lavecchia, who admitted to a long-term drug abuse problem, told Serfass, "I regret all the decisions I made. I never had any guidance in life."He said he felt the state program was the best for him. Both Serfass and first assistant District Attorney Michael S. Greek agreed that the placement was the best thing for Lavecchia. The access device and theft counts stems from an Aug. 12, 2014, incident in Palmerton in which he used a stolen credit card to make purchases involving three victims. He was previously placed in the county's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program but was revoked based on new criminal charges. The corruption count stems from an Aug. 6, 2015, incident when state police responded to an underage drinking party report in Franklin Township.Troopers said Lavecchia admitted buying beer for the party which had minors attending. The drug counts stem from a March 7 incident filed by Lehighton police following a vehicle stop in which various drugs were found in the vehicle operated by Lavecchia. The charge he pleaded to Monday stems from an incident on May 28, 2016, in the 600 block of White Street in Bowmanstown filed by state police at Lehighton.Serfass also imposed a fine of $2,500 and costs of about $1,000.
