St. John’s Lutheran Church is holding its annual St. John’s Clothing Ministry.
Donations consisting of clothing for all ages, footwear, bedding, household items, toys and books are available.
Members of the church along with people from the community collected items. Typically, the church has a drop-off period during the first two weeks in July.
“We like to start early; we plan the times to meet because the longest time is to sort out the items. It’s very hands-on, we work as a team,” said Leta Thompson, a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Anyone may come to receive clothing. All the church asks for is for the people to write their names, hometown and number of family members benefiting — this is a way to keep track of the people benefiting.
Last year, approximately 600 people served.
“It’s amazing how much clothing and supplies we get. It’s being used and it’s a real service to the community,” Thompson said.
The most popular items are children’s clothing, especially school clothes. Some pieces of uniform clothing were placed at the front.
Whatever is not given during this time will be donated to the Allentown Rescue Mission for men’s items, and a partner church in Frackville.
The St. John’s Clothing Ministry is open the following dates: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
Monetary donations are accepted.
St. John’s Lutheran Church is located at 319 South Ave., Jim Thorpe.
