Carbon woman victim of a scam

An Albrightsville woman fell victim to a scam.

State police at Fern Ridge said the Penn Forest Township woman was hired as a personal assistant via email. She was sent a check for $1,985 which was to be used for her first assignment involving an orphanage. The victim deposited the check into her personal bank account, troopers said.The victim was then told the assignment was postponed and a portion of the money, $1,600, needed to be returned. The victim sent the money plus costs via Western Union and MoneyGram.After the money was transferred, the check was canceled and the victim is out $1,985, troopers said.Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call troopers at 570-646-2271.
