A Slatington man has been charged in connection with a gun shooting incident in the borough.
Police said Jarret Thomas Klinger, 36, of the 400 block of Kuehner Avenue, has been charged with aggravated assault with a weapon, recklessly endangering another person and simple assault.
At 11:59 p.m. Friday officers were dispatched to the Sunoco A Plus located at 160 Main St. to meet a woman who reported a man had fired a gun at her. She identified the man as Klinger and said that it occurred at his residence earlier. She said she went to the Klinger home to retrieve a AR-15 style rifle for a friend who said Klinger was to turn over the gun to her. She arrived at the Klinger residence about 11:45 p.m. She said after sending text messages to Klinger, with no response, she called the residence, with no answer to her call.
She said she then heard a loud noise which she believed to be a gunshot. She got out of her call and saw Klinger on the front porch brandishing a AR-15 style rifle. She said Klinger then pointed the gun at her and shouted for her to leave the residence. She drove to the Sunoco A Plus and called police.
Police phoned the home. Klinger answered and was asked to come to police headquarters to speak to them about an incident at his home.
Klinger responded by stating nothing happened at his residence and that he had nothing to speak to police about. He finally agreed to come to police headquarters. He told police he “did not shoot a round off at her or point a rifle at her” before police said anything about the incident. He claimed he set off a firecracker at the residence. He was asked to provide a voluntary written statement, which he refused to complete.
Klinger agreed to surrender the gun. Klinger called his residence and told his mother to leave the gun on the front porch where police picked it up. Police did not see any remnants of a firework discharge. Klinger was taken into custody and charged.
